So You Want to Speak

Lesson 82 - Visualize Your Next Speech

Every day, you want to be a well-read person.

I read a variety of pages.

I can pull quotes and examples and anecdotes from a variety of places.

I'm an active listener.

I can bring into their current reality.

I'm looking at what's happening, listening to the conversations around me.

People that are well informed, that's comprehensive, effective preparation and research.

We want you to be able to ride the wave of quotes, anecdotes, examples, humor, and entertainment.

People like that.

You want to know when you stand up, you know more than anybody in the room.

So, visualize and see yourself walking through the audience responding feeling, knowing that you've done your job.

If your level of familiarity allows you to cross over the bridge of strangeness if you level up if your name familiar relationship with somebody in the audience, so when you're up speaking up getting nervous, you can look at someone and call their name.

You know, Stephanie, when I was talking with you outside, we were talking about how long you've been a member of this organization.

And you were telling about why you admire the President or his determination of how the organization has grown under his leadership.

I really admire your enthusiasm and your commitment to the work that your group is doing.

The members of the audience now are going to really have a sense of identification with you because you know somebody in the audience and they're not going to be disrespectful to the friend of somebody in the audience.

See what I'm saying?

Keep it simple stories to illustrate your points that people can remember.

Use your life as an example.

I was afraid that I would fail.

I was afraid that I wasn't good enough.

Number one, you're sharing yourself, making yourself vulnerable.

Number two, they can identify with you.

Once you've got them on your side, you can take them to another level.

You're talking about your life experience. No one can take that from you.

Don't be afraid because you don't want to make mistakes because you don't want to. You don't want to fail, it's a part of the territory… to being disappointed.

Remember, I said know your environment.

Know your audience.

See you next week
