In our previous lessons, we talked about formatting your speech and how to tell your signature story.
We also discussed developing content, connecting with, and challenging your audience, as well as delivering a strategic message and dealing with embarrassment.
Today, I want to talk to you about self-discovery.
You’ll find that the more you discover about yourself, the more you’ll find out about your audience.
The more that you allow yourself to be vulnerable and transparent about your OWN life, the deeper the connection and relationship you get to build with them.
When you can live beyond the good opinions of others, and be okay within YOURSELF…
This will give them the strength and permission to be imperfect.
By admitting your own failures and weaknesses, you allow others to see themselves in you.
Like everyone else, you might doubt yourself.
Don’t let your EGO get in the way of your success.
Don’t be afraid to tell many parts of your story that aren’t perfect.
It’s who you ARE behind the words that makes the difference.
Your voice is a projection of your life experiences.
Are you delivering the message or are you THE MESSASGE?
Life is about growth and getting better.
We have to continuously get caring feedback because we can’t see the picture when we’re in the frame.
If you want to be a speaker, you simply need to get started.
Toastmasters is a great foundation to build upon.
Pay more attention to your listening than your ‘telling’.
You’ll be surprised about what you’ll find out about others.
As we look at ourselves and others, people are dealing with tough situations and circumstances.
When you are an active listener, you can speak to them according to THEIR needs.
By creating an experience for your audience, you can CHANGE lives…
But you’ve got to be willing to LISTEN.
If you love talking to and helping people…
If you love reading and challenging yourself and others…
You can LEARN to speak.
