Lesson 32 - Let Go of Negative Labels
I will never forget how outraged the principal was when she came into my fifth-grade classroom one day while we were clowning around…
In her anger, she began to call us stupid, dumb, and retarded.
She pointed out about six students, including me. I remember the fear and hurt welling up inside me.
They put us back in the fourth grade of special education students.
Most people don’t realize how DETRIMENTAL negative labels can be.
They become self-fulfilling prophecies.
I began to believe that I couldn’t do certain things.
And if I encountered any difficulty, I would stop.
Hurtful memories can stifle your development and growth.
How do we change and grow so that we can live our dreams?
The first step the whole of these inhibiting influences from the past?
Recognize them and then either turn them into a positive force to push you ahead rather than
hold you back…
Here are a few of the most common emotions that dig into the subconscious and impede our
growth as individuals... Anger.
If you hold your anger for more than a week, it is only hurting you transform anger into positive motivation.
Don't get mad, get motivated.
Revenge… The person who has injured you has probably gone on with life.
So should you instead of saying I'll get them say I'll show them.
Guilt is another emotion that stands between you and your dreams.
Don't let people put you on a guilt trip.
Say to yourself, no matter what you do more say to me, I'm still a worthwhile person to read
yourself.
Expect things to get better.
Accept responsibility for changing your life.
You can't expect to achieve new goals or move beyond your present circumstances unless you
change, and new avenues of achievement require a commitment to growth.
The exploration of those avenues reveals talents that you never dreamt you possess and
opens you up to new outlets.
In order to change so that you can live your dreams, you must grow in consciousness.
Practice self-love and forgiveness and it will carry over into your relationships, your work and
the world around you.
Consider your gifts.
Write down at least five things that you like about yourself.
Recall moments of triumph. capture that feeling of self-satisfaction again.
Life is more meaningful when you are always looking to grow and working toward a goal. Seek
self-approval by making yours an uncommon life.
Be prepared for people to block and conspire against you.
Even your own family may challenge your ability to choose your own way.
If you want to change your life, commit yourself to doing it.
See you next week
